Bearings P 214

Introduction
Application
Usage

Bearing P214 refers to a pillow block or plummer block bearing unit, commonly a UC214 insert bearing housed in a P214 cast iron base, designed for supporting rotating shafts in industrial machinery. These units feature a spherical outer ring on the insert for self-alignment, accommodating minor shaft misalignments up to 2-3 degrees.

The code “P214” designates a cast-iron housing (two-bolt flange / pillow-block housing).

This housing is meant to contain a bearing insert — often part number “UC214” or similar. Together, the housing + insert bearing is sold as a unit, commonly labeled UCP214.

In other words: UCP214 = UC214 bearing insert + P214 housing.

So if you see just “P 214,” it usually means the housing alone, without the bearing.

In skip bucket hoists of ready-mix plants, P214 bearings mount on guide rails or pulley supports, handling radial loads from 10-20 ton skips during vertical lifts of aggregates. They offer easy installation and replacement, aligning with maintenance needs for Maharashtra-based equipment like Apollo or Schwing models, with service life of 20,000-40,000 hours under greased operation.

  1. Skip Hoist System (Most Common Use)

In plants that use a skip bucket to lift aggregate or concrete, UCP214 (P214 housing + UC214 bearing) can be used in:

  • Skip Bucket Guide Rollers

Guide rollers that run along the skip hoist rails are mounted on shafts.

These shafts often use pillow-block bearings like UCP214 to support the roller.

The bearing maintains smooth rotation under heavy loads and constant vibration.

  • Skip Hoist Drum / Sheave Shaft

Some models use a drum or sheave to wind the hoisting cable:

The drum shaft is supported by heavy-duty pillow block bearings.

UCP214 is sized for medium–heavy load and is often a suitable choice.

  1. Conveyor Systems

In many batching plants, P214/UCP214 bearings are used on:

  1. Aggregate Belt Conveyor Rollers
  • Supports the tail pulley or head pulley shaft.
  • Can also support tensioning rollers.
  1. Inclined Conveyor or Feed Conveyor

Heavy-duty pillow blocks are required due to dusty environment and continuous use.

  1. Cement Screw Conveyor (Less common, but possible)

Although screw conveyors usually use bearing types like UCFL, UCF, or UCT:

Some plants use UCP214 pillow blocks to support the tail end of an auger shaft, especially for larger-diameter screws.

  1. Mixer Drive Components (Depending on design)

In some older planetary or twin-shaft mixers:

External shaft supports or pulley drives may use UCP214 units due to their high load capacity and self-alignment ability.

How It Works
Key Features
Specifications and Customization

The P214 pillow block bearing works by allowing the inner ring to rotate freely on the shaft while the outer ring remains stationary, mounted via the cast iron housing bolted to equipment frames. Cylindrical or ball rollers inside the UC214 insert bearing roll between the grooved inner and outer races, converting sliding friction to rolling friction for minimal energy loss (coefficient ~0.001).

P214 pillow block bearings feature a robust cast iron housing with four-bolt mounting holes for secure fixation on skip hoist frames, supporting shaft diameters of 70mm in concrete batching plants. The UC214 insert uses deep groove ball or cylindrical roller elements with a spherical outer diameter for self-alignment up to 2-3°, compensating for misalignment from rail wear or vibration.

Integrated relubrication ports with zerk fittings enable grease replenishment without disassembly, using high-temperature EP2 lubricants to maintain low friction under dusty conditions. Dual-lip contact seals or felt labyrinth designs exclude cement particles and moisture, extending service life to 20,000-40,000 hours at speeds up to 5,000 RPM.

High load ratings include 62.5 kN dynamic and 44 kN static capacity, ideal for 10-20 ton skip bucket cycles, with corrosion-resistant coatings on races and rollers for harsh Indian plant environments like those in Maharashtra.

The UC214 insert has a 70mm bore diameter (shaft size), 125mm outer diameter, and 74.6mm width, with dynamic load capacity around 62.5 kN and static load 44 kN, suitable for moderate speeds up to 5,000 RPM. The P214 housing provides four-bolt mounting for stability, often with greaseable relubrication ports and felt or rubber seals to exclude contaminants like dust in harsh environments.

For a standard P214 / UCP214:

  • Shaft bore (bearing insert) — 70 mm
  • Housing: 2-bolt flange / pillow block design, cast-iron.
  • Mounting hole center-to-center (bolt holes): ~210 mm
  • Overall housing dimensions (approx): length ~266 mm; width ~72 mm; height ~155–156 mm depending on supplier.
  • Bearings typically used with P214 housing are radial ball bearings (insert type), allowing radial loads and some axial tolerance — suitable for shaft applications like conveyors, rollers, material-handling.
